Installing Track Lighting
Track lighting
is easy to install and can be connected either
by adding a new ceiling box or using an adapter
cord, which will reach an existing receptacle.
With a new addition, installing a ceiling box
may be more to your advantage, since you will
not need to hide the cord.
Installing the ceiling box can be
accomplished by following these simple steps:
- If you have electricity running to that
room, shut down the power at the circuit
breaker.
- Attach the mounting bracket by screwing
it into the electrical box.
- Push the wires to the electrical
connector through the slot in the track, and
then through the slot in the box adapter.
- By matching colored wires and using the
appropriate screw nuts, attach the wires to
those in the box.
- Connect the two-piece mounting assembly
to the box tabs.
- This step may require the assistance of
another person. Holding a ruler or yardstick
flat against the wall or ceiling (wherever
the track lighting is being installed) you
want to line the ruler up with the center
slot on the track connector.
- Draw a line from this slot to where the
track ends, and mark lines to indicate the
correct positions of the clips*, which will
hold the track in place. (*Refer to the
manufacture's instructions on their
recommended placement.)
- Hold the clips in place, mark and drill
pilot holes at these indicated points, then
screw the clips in place.
- Partially insert the side screw into the
clips, then push the track wires firmly into
the electrical connectors and slid the track
into the connector.
- Gently tighten the side screws of each
clip that holds the track in place. The
connector covers should easily snap into
place, concealing the wires.
- Insert the light bulbs, turn on the
power at the circuit breaker, and admire a
job well done.
